Education Program Accreditation and Affiliations

Registration as a School

Rockingham Montessori School is registered by the Department of Education Services, which is a legal requirement for independent schools in Perth and Western Australia. Successful ongoing registration is a requirement for both State and Federal Government funding.

Montessori Quality Assurance Program

Rockingham Montessori School is ‘Montessori Registered’, which means we have committed to the Montessori Quality Assurance Program Charter and meet the standards of the Charter, as assessed by an independent national body (Montessori Quality Assurance Council, MQAC). The Montessori Quality Standards are:

  1. Montessori prepared adult
  2. Montessori prepared learning environment
  3. Montessori curriculum planning, implementation and assessment and
  4. Commitment to improvement, leadership, vision and child advocacy.

This is separate to the State Government Registration process, and is assurance of an authentic Montessori program.

Curriculum

The Montessori National Curriculum (MNC) is recognised as an alternative national curriculum framework by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). This means ACARA, after a rigorous process culminating in 2011, determined that the MNC can deliver comparable educational outcomes for students to those based on the Australian National Curriculum.
This was an important step for Montessori schools in Perth and the whole of Australia, because it means they can freely implement the Montessori program, knowing students will thrive and, at the same time, parents can have confidence that students will not miss out on learning outcomes more typically associated with regular schooling.

NAPLAN

State and Federal Government funding conditions require the School to take part in annual National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and the On-line Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) standardised testing. Although rating children falls outside the Montessori ethos, the School complies with the standardised testing requirement. Children in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN, and Year 10 students participate in OLNA. Families may choose not to participate by completing a formal written application and making personal contact with the Principal. For further information see the DES or ACARA websites.

AISWA

Rockingham Montessori School is a member of the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA).

Playgroup WA

Rockingham Montessori School helps provide membership of Playgroup WA. Our Infant Toddler Program is equivalent to a playgroup, and we sometimes call it that.

ACNC

Rockingham Montessori School is registered as a not-for-profit organisation with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). The School’s building fund is an ATO accredited Deductible Gift Recipient and welcomes donations of any size (most come from School families and people or businesses within the local community). Donations are tax-deductible for donors. If we can assist you with this, please let us know.

Our school provides before- and after-school care and holidaycare for families, through a professional independent external provider, called ‘Our Place’.
